Sustainable water management and room for development

A large part of the site is reserved for water. The landscape will change along with the water level. We used this dynamic to create a new interesting public space in the heart of the whole neighborhood. Our proposal integrates the development of 54 new houses with sustainable water management. By building more compact on the higher side of the location, extra space for water and public domain is created on the lower side. The access is organized through a new bridge over the water landscape. A compact apartment building is attached to the bridge.

Status: 1st Prize competition 2015
Team: Andrius Kalinauskas, Mikas Kauzonas, Johan De Wachter
Collaboration: 2DVW Architecten (JDWA+RDVA), LapLab (landscape)
Client: SHM Dewaco Werkerswelzijn
Location:  Aalst, BE
